The Brief

During the COVID-19 crisis the City of Baltimore, in partnership with the Neighborhood Design Center, created a competition for the architecture and design community to support neighborhood restaurants and retail establishments across Baltimore. The Mayson-Dixon team was brought in to consult on how best to coordinate the build-out for this vision and price it out to stay within the City’s budget.

We brought in the Modern Suppliers team to source the materials locally and negotiate discounts. The MD Strategic Consulting team coordinated messaging around the project with the City and local community partners and volunteered their time on the project site. Finally, the Modern Builders team completed the construction projects with local Baltimore City residents and volunteers. Immediately, restaurants in these areas began reporting their best sales figures in months, which has allowed them to keep their doors open and people in their jobs.

The supply team was asked to work in sync with 12 different projects sites to order materials in bulk to support local bars, restaurants, and retail outlets. The project teams focused on supporting the re-opening of these businesses, with additional outside seating capacity and space they didn’t have before, due to COVID-19. Our team coordinated with all of the project teams to deliver supplies and materials all over the City of Baltimore as well as our project site in the Station North neighborhood of the city where Modern Builders then constructed the platforms, planters, and barriers to help stop the spread of COVID even while these businesses were open and supporting local jobs and the economy.

But wait, there's more!
